Icons and stuff
Tuesday, March 24th, 2009Yesterday, when I was about to add the awesome-smiley to the preinstalled wordpress-smileys I’ve got here (and accidentally made the site go down for awhile), I noticed that there are a lot of graphical icons in that folder that I’ve never even seen.
So I thought we’d go through them all, so you know what smileys you can use, both here, and on every other WordPress comic/blog out there (not that you’d want to use them, but still…). I’ll also give examples to how they can be used.
Here we go:
:) =
Example: “Wow, this comic really sucks…
”
:D =
Example: “I mean, REALLY
”
:lol: =
Example: “Haha! This reminds me of something that’s actually FUNNY!
”
;) =
Example: “And it wasn’t Glitchtown, that’s for sure.
”
:P =
Example: “So hah!
”
:( =
Example: “Wait… that’s not funny.
”
:cry: =
Example: “I work at Adobe, I’m nothing like this!
”
:oops: =
Example: “You should draw all your characters, naked… sometime…
”
:roll: =
Example: “oh, you…
”
8) =
Example: “You’ll never be as cool as me
”
8O =
Example: “Late update? Again?
”
:? =
Example: “I don’t get this strip…
”
:o =
Example: “Dude. I was just kidding about drawing them naked.
”
:x =
Example: “Cats. Are NOT. Silly!
”
:| =
Example: “Meh
”
:!: =
Example: “HHHNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGHHHH
”
:?: =
Example: “Wait, what
”
:arrow: =
Example: “Hey, everybody! Head over to Penny Arcade instead.
It’s actually funny!”
:twisted: =
Example: “im in ur site spammin yor commentfeild lolol
”
:evil: =
Example: “WHAT IS THIS SHIT
”
:idea: =
Example: “I just got an idea, and I’ll use this shit right here to prove it ->
”
:mrgreen: =
Example: “Why would anyone ever use this smiley?
”
Now, I’m aware that many of these suck. I didn’t make them. But I could change them thought, maybe. Sometime.
Also, let’s go through what HTML that’s acceptable in the comments. It annoys me when you don’t know what you can and can’t write, and you end up with a weirdly formatted comment (which you can’t edit. I can though.)
Here’s some of what wordpress accepts:
<b> / <strong>
<i> / <em>
<s> / <del>
<a href=”example”>
<blockquote>
<ins datetime=”2009-03-24T12:04:20+00:00″>
<img src=”example” alt=”example” />
<ul>
<ol>
<li>
<code>
I won’t explain them all. If you don’t know what it is, you probably won’t need it.
